I need me some advice

I'm thinking about asking for this camera for Christmas. Do any of ya'll have digital SLR cams? What do you have, and how do you like it?

I also want to take a trip w/ Andy sometime in this lifetime. :) We've had great vacations as a married couple, but we haven't gotten away just the two of us since December 2008. Yikes. I need ideas, friends. Budget-friendly ideas that would take us somewhere out of state (I'm dreamin' of Hawaii or northern CA). It'd probably be a while before we could get outta town, but I want to start planning something soon.

Lastly, are any of the movies out on Redbox now any good? just curious.

  1. we have a Nikon D70, which is what I learned on in college...frankly, I prefer Canons. I think they're more user-friendly for non-professionals, and I think ours is too bulky for traveling with ease.

We traveled to San Francisco for our honeymoon for about $1600, including hotel room for four nights and air fare and taxi money to leave the airport. Fare is surprisingly cheap to the northwest, typically $250ish give or take. You should do it!

  3. As far as SLR cameras go...If you want ease of use, canons are great. If you want to go somewhere with your photography though and learn more of the manual settings and whatnot, Nikon is easier to do that kind of stuff. So if you understand how Aperture, Shutter Speed, and Lighting works, then I'd go with the camera you have listed or even the D5100 (which is the one that I want). If you want to learn more about the manual adjustments on an SLR, I can explain them to you as well. I also have a really good and short book that helped me understand and improve my photography skills. Hope that helped. :)
